Goodness Grows proudly presents the third annual presentation of The Legends of Oglethorpe, a living history weekend with talented actors bringing to life individuals who have been a part of Oglethorpe County‘s history.
Goodness Grows in Lexington, GA will host the event. Enjoy the scenery of the most beautiful nursery in the South while you learn about Oglethorpe County. The nursery will be closed to the general public giving event attendees exclusive access. Plants will be available for sale throughout the day between shows and the Gift Shop will be open too.
Nine individuals who played roles in Oglethorpe County’s rich history will share intriguing stories and historic facts about their lives. Each character, brought to life by an actor in costume, will present a five to seven minute monologue about their contributions to our county, state, and nation. Event attendees will be in groups of up to twenty and will be guided to each character’s perfomance area within the nursery gardens.
These characters are a small representation of the many notable individuals who lived in Oglethorpe County and helped form our nation’s history. We encourage you to visit again, and often, to learn more about Oglethorpe County. You can learn more in-depth details about the characters and the county’s history at our historical information tent either before or after the presentations.
Enjoy a self-guided walking tour through the historic streets of Lexington. Ticket holders will be provided a walking tour brochure which includes a map and description of the houses and structures around town. Take time to visit the Lexington Presbyterian Church and explore the cemetery which is the resting place for many notable Georgians. Visit the old county jail built in 1878 and used for 130 years. Spend time shopping with the various downtown merchants and go visit nearby Shaking Rock Park. Only minutes from downtown, Shaking Rock Park will amaze you with its unique natural granite outcroppings.
